How to change your password

You can change your password of your IT account here if you have a contact email (other than polytechnique.edu) in the École polytechnique's XAJAM directory.

Otherwise, you can contact the IT department of École polytechnique by sending an email to support(Q)polytechnique(P)edu and providing a copy of your School's badge or your personal ID card.

Choose a strong password

At least 8 non-accented characters must be used, with at least two digits, one capital letter and one special character.

Common words such as azerty, toto, etc. are not allowed.

We recommend you choose a word or phrase that's easy to remember, and swap letters with numbers or special characters, like Vac@nce5D_hiv3r, for example.

Password recommandations

  1. Use different passwords to authenticate to different systems. In particular, you should never use the same password for both your work and personal e-mail systems.

  2. Choose a password that is not linked to your identity (e.g. a company name, date of birth, etc.).

  3. Never ask a third party to create a password for you.

  4. Always change default passwords as soon as possible when systems contain them.

  5. Renew your passwords with reasonable frequency. Every 90 days is a good compromise for systems containing sensitive data. Important: if you have any doubts about the legitimacy of your password, change it immediately; especially if you think you've been tricked by phishing.

  6. Do not store passwords in a file on a computer particularly exposed to risk (e.g. online on the Internet), and even less on easily accessible paper.

  7. Don't send your own passwords to your personal e-mail address.

  8. Configure your software, including your web browser, so that it does not “remember” the passwords you choose.
